The School Council

The school council is now in its third year. Each class votes for a representaive to go on the school council to discuss what is going on in the school and  make suggestions. It's a good way for us to give our opinions and have a say in some of the decisions. It is also good practice for taking part in meetings and helps us to feel more confident. Because representatives change every few meetings, lots of children get a chance to take part.

Meeting 12th February

With the new council voted in it was down to business.

First came the job of electing the new officers - Chairman and Secretary ready for the next meeting.

Here are just a few notes to show you the types of things that the school council discussed.

Matters arising:

  • Playground equipment has been ordered by Mr Wood and lockable boxes are to be ordered to keep it in.
  • The friendship stop has been mended and is ready to be used again.
  • Wet playtime rules and guideline sheets will be put up in each classroom.

A.O.B

Some of the other things discussed at the meeting:

  • The problem of children coming in and staying in the cloakrooms during break and lunchtime was discussed.
  • The behaviour of some of the prefects.
  • The school council thought a staff noticeboard would be a good idea.
  • The school council were asked to comment on the Anti Bullying policy at the school. They thought that circle time provided a good opportunity to discuss feelings, but felt worry boxes in the classrooms were open to misuse and not private enough and that they would like a designated member of staff to go to if they had any worries or concerns. These areas are being looked into.

Next meeting 25th March
